YOUR ITEM: UNC University of North Carolina Tar Heels Football 1949 SoCo Southern Conference Champions ORIGINAL Photograph Choo Choo Justice. The 1949 University of North Carolina Tar Heels football team won the Southern Conference championship with a perfect 5-0 record. The Tar Heels played their home games at Kenan Memorial Stadium.

Charlie Justice: Halfback who led the team in rushing, passing, and punting. He was named an All-American and came in second for the Heisman Trophy. Art Weiner: End who was named an All-American by United Press, Sporting News, and INS. Kenny Powell: Defensive end who was named an All-American by NEA. The Tar Heels beat NC State 26-6 in Chapel Hill on September 24.

The Tar Heels beat Georgia 21-14 in Chapel Hill on October 1. The Tar Heels beat South Carolina 28-13 in Columbia on October 1. The Tar Heels lost to LSU 7-13 in Baton Rouge on October 15. The Tar Heels lost to Tennessee 6-35 in Chapel Hill on October 22.
